Speaker series explores equity in access to transplant

UNOS Luminaries returns Aug. 26 with a panel of experts who will discuss racial and social disparities in access to transplant.

Join UNOS Aug. 26 for a meaningful exploration of equity in access to transplant. Our three expert panelists will discuss the social and racial factors that can cause disparity in organ transplantation and what the organ donation and transplant community is currently doing to combat inequity.

What is UNOS Luminaries?

UNOS Luminaries, a free educational fundraiser speaker series, promotes the miracle of transplant to broader audiences and brings awareness to important initiatives within the community. Presented twice annually, the series convenes experts in their fields for a moderated panel discussion to spotlight innovations, trends and special topics in organ donation and transplant. Proceeds raised from UNOS Luminaries events directly benefit UNOS LabsSM projects and cutting-edge research studies that have the potential to advance our nation’s transplant system to save more lives.

Engage and learn

UNOS Luminaries is open to anyone with a connection to the community or interest in organ donation. The audience will come away with an understanding of barriers to transplant, improvements made to access and the research and data that may improve outcomes for minority transplant patients.

Attendees will have an opportunity to submit questions for the panelists following the discussion. They will also hear the inspiring story of Austin Lee, a two-time kidney transplant recipient and living donation advocate. While UNOS Luminaries is free for all to attend, the audience will be asked to support UNOS LabsSM research that improves equity in access to transplant by donating to UNOS using an easy text-to-give mobile platform.
