OPTN/UNOS committees have created guidance documents on important patient safety issues to assist transplant centers and OPOs with policies and procedures. Guidance is available on the following topics:
- HTLV-1 Screening and Confirmation in Potential Donors and Reporting Potential HTLV-1 Infection, created by the Ad Hoc Disease Transmission Advisory Committee (DTAC)
- Reporting Potential Donor-Derived Disease Transmission Events, created by DTAC
- ABO Subtyping Organ Donors for Blood Groups A and AB, created by the Operations and Safety Committee
These guidance documents were approved by the OPTN/UNOS Board of Directors at their June 2011 meeting. They are not policies and they do not carry the monitoring and enforcement implications of policy. The guidance documents contain references to applicable policies.
