The Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) will convene a day-and-a-half Learning Congress in September to mark the conclusion of the OPTN DCD Lung Transplant Collaborative. To be held Sept. 26-27 in San Antonio, the Congress will be open to all adult lung transplant programs and will highlight the work of the 29 hospitals that participated in the collaborative.
The OPTN DCD Lung Transplant Collaborative is a national initiative, launched in December 2022, to support efforts to increase the transplantation of donation after circulatory death (DCD) lungs. During this project, the participating hospitals, representing approximately 45 percent of the nation’s adult lung programs, worked to improve their ability to assess, evaluate, and transplant lungs from DCD donors.
The Learning Congress will provide an opportunity for sharing insights and accomplishments from the collaborative participants as well as for continuing to explore strategies and effective practices in DCD lung transplantation. Several interactive discussions will be a key part of the Congress.
Lung programs invited to participate
Each adult lung program has been invited to send up to two participants to the Congress. Post-event recordings will also be made available in the OPTN Learning Management System.
