Richmond, Va. – At its meeting today, the OPTN/UNOS Board of Directors restored full member privileges for two member institutions: Erie County Medical Center in Buffalo, N.Y., and Nebraska Organ Recovery System, the organ procurement organization serving the state of Nebraska.
The Board had placed Erie County Medical Center on probation in November 2014 based on a need to address issues relating to its evaluation of potential living donors.
The Board had placed Nebraska Organ Recovery System on probation in November 2014 based on a need for systematic improvement to address several areas of policy compliance.
“Both institutions have demonstrated commendable improvements in quality management and training and have successfully addressed the concerns that led to the earlier action,” said OPTN/UNOS President Betsy Walsh, J.D.
The Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) is operated under contract with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration, Division of Transplantation, by United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS). The OPTN brings together medical professionals, transplant recipients and donor families to develop national organ transplantation policy.
