Attn: Transplant Program Directors
The Region 5 donor management goals workgroup announces a controlled trial that is scheduled to start on March 19, 2012. The goal of this trial is to demonstrate that mild hypothermia (34 – 35° C) in the DNDD for approximately 12 hours before organ recovery will protect the allograft during the transplant process.
Read a short synopsis of the study.
The University of California San Francisco (UCSF) is the host institution for this study. The UCSF Institutional Review Committee determined that recipients of organs from this clinical trial do not need to be consented because of minimal risk involved to the organs. See IRB outcome letter.
Even though consent for these organs is not required, we will keep the transplant community informed by labeling all organs from enrolled deceased organ donors on DonorNet. You will be able to use this information as you make your organ acceptance decisions. You will also be able to access the study synopsis and the IRB letter from DonorNet.
