As of Aug. 1, the toll-free UNOS patient services line offers interpreters in more than 170 languages for limited-English proficient callers who have questions about transplantation. UNOS’ instructional innovations department (formerly professional services) has set up an agreement with CyraCom to make the services available.
Since 1994, CyraCom, based in Tucson, Ariz., has offered medical interpretation and translation services in a variety of medical settings―hospitals, home-care agencies, long-term care providers and medical supply companies. CyraCom is exclusively endorsed by the American Hospital Association.
UNOS’ toll-free patient services line, 1-888-894-6361, is available Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (ET) to answer general questions about the transplant process. After work hours and on weekends, the caller can leave a message, and UNOS staff will return the call the next business day.
The patient services line is one of a number of educational resources UNOS has available for transplant candidates, recipients and their caregivers. UNOS also offers a patient website, transplantliving.org , and a number of brochures and fact sheets in both English and Spanish, many of which can be downloaded free of charge.
