To address the issue that the OPTN does not have a robust method for reviewing OPO performance, the OPTN/UNOS Board of Directors approved bylaws changes at its June 2011 meeting. Read policy notice.
These bylaws changes will help the MPSC review an OPO’s performance related to its aggregate and organ-specific yields.
Model Specifics
Beginning with its July 2012 MPSC meeting, the MPSC will review OPOs to identify improvement opportunities where observed performance falls below an expected performance ratio.
The MPSC will identify an OPO for review (for all organs, as well as each organ type) if the OPO meets all three of the following:
- Observed per 100 donors-Expected per 100 donors < -10
- A ratio of observed to expected yield is less than 0.90
- A two-sided p-value less than 0.05.
Implementation Coming Soon
OPO staff should familiarize themselves with these bylaws changes since they will be implemented July 1.
