Richmond, Va. — the Richmond Times-Dispatch has recognized UNOS as one of the Richmond area’s Top Workplaces in 2014.
“This recognition will make more people aware of what our team already knows about UNOS,” said Brian Shepard, UNOS’ Chief Executive Officer. “UNOS is a vibrant organization, serving a lifesaving role for people nationwide, and it’s staffed by talented and highly motivated people who care deeply about our mission and values.”
UNOS, a private, non-profit organization, unites and supports the organ donation and transplantation community nationwide through organ placement, research, technology, policy development and education. UNOS serves as the nation’s Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network under federal contract. As the OPTN, it matches lifesaving organs with people nationwide awaiting transplants and manages the national database of medical information about transplant candidates, recipients and donors.
“We’re a national organization and a model for transplant systems worldwide,” said Shepard. “We’re also very proud to be based in Richmond and play an active role in supporting our community.”
UNOS, which celebrated its 30th anniversary in March 2014, has been headquartered in Richmond since its founding. Its 330 employees work in two office buildings within the Virginia Biotechnology Research Park. UNOS is also home to the National Donor Memorial, which honors the life-giving impact of organ and tissue donation.
The Richmond Times-Dispatch partnered with Workplace Dynamics LLC, a workplace surveying and consulting firm, to identify top workplaces in the region based on a survey of the employees of each organization.
