As of Feb. 1, 2014, OPOs must use the 2013 PHS Guideline for evaluating behavioral risks related to disease transmission in living and deceased donors. The guideline includes a list of observed or behavioral risk factors that must be addressed when performing medical-social evaluations of donors. Several professionals from transplant centers and OPOs have had recurring questions about this risk factor list. With help from the Disease Transmission Advisory Committee, the OPTN created this FAQ to answer those questions.
