Nevada Donor Network is pleased to welcome Dr. Kevin Burns as its new HLA Laboratory Director. Dr. Burns brings 17 years of clinical laboratory experience, most recently serving as the Medical Director of HLA and Immunohematology Reference Laboratories at BloodSource in Mather, California. He holds a BS in Clinical Laboratory Sciences from Texas Tech University and an MD from the University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio. He completed his residency and fellowships at The Methodist Hospital in Houston.
Dr. Burns is certified by the American Board of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ABHI) and is an American Society of Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI) credentialed laboratory director. He is also board certified in Clinical Pathology and Blood Banking/Transfusion Medicine by the American Board of Pathology and is a board certified Medical Technologist by the American Society for Clinical Pathology (ASCP).</p>
Dr. Burns’ background also includes expertise in bone marrow transplantation and transfusion medicine which will facilitate expansion of the Nevada Donor Network (NDN) laboratory services to other aspects of the donation and transplantation mission. Dr. Burns is a published author and has presented his work around the country on several topics including transfusion medicine and solid organ transplantation. He has also served on a number of committees and boards within the healthcare sector and donation related industries.
