New option available for transplant programs to report cause of death for transplant candidates and recipients

A new cause of death code, “Infection: Viral – COVID-19”, has been added to the Waitlistsm and TIEDI® to allow transplant program staff to more accurately report data. This new code will allow for a better assessment of the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic on transplant candidates and recipients.

What you need to do

Directions were included in an e-mail sent April 1 to staff at all transplant programs and are posted in a system notice in Secure Enterprise.

Additional details

Revisions on data collection are necessary in order to better assess the impacts that COVID-19 has had on the donation and transplant community. Having an explicit cause of death related to COVID-19 will allow for better assessment of the impact of this infection on the candidate and transplant recipient populations.
