Implementation date
Jan. 18. 2023
At-a-glance
On Jan. 18, a predictive analytics tool will be available for kidney offers for adult kidney candidates in DonorNet MobileSM. Education is available now in UNOS Connect so members can learn about predictive analytics before it launches nationally.
The tool can be found on the candidate data page when evaluating an adult candidate for a kidney organ offer, and will include several key components:
- The predicted time until next KDPI < 30 or KDPI < 50 offer for 50% and 90% of patients similar to the one being evaluated
- A candidate-specific mortality risk associated with waiting for the next offer, dependent on the variables selected
The information can be displayed in tabular and graphical form.
What you need to do
No immediate action is required from kidney transplant programs. Starting Jan. 18, users who evaluate kidney offers using the DonorNet Mobile web application will be able to use the predictive analytics tool on offers for their adult kidney candidates.
We encourage programs to review the education resources and training modules and begin to have conversations about how these measures may fit into their organ offer evaluation process.
Additional details
The predictive analytics tool seeks to show the likely impacts for a candidate if their current offer is refused, based on relevant historical data for similar candidates.
The goal is to help decision makers make evidence-based decisions to benefit candidates when determining whether to accept or refuse an offer.
These predictions are intended to supplement, not replace, existing data and clinical judgment.
