My daddy passed away unexpectedly on 9/15/2023 at the tender age of 70. He was my best friend, my hero, my all-time go-to. I was a “daddy’s little girl” still at 46. We spoke nearly every single day. He was a strong-willed, stubborn Italian who loved to either have the last word, the last laugh or tease you enough to make you cry.
The night I got to the hospital and the sight I witnessed will forever be in my head whenever I close my eyes. I know he is in a better place and no longer in pain or agony from years of back pain from many surgeries, and this year was pretty hectic for him, but I will forever miss him. I didn’t find out he was donating his cornea until it came time for us to make arrangements with the funeral home, and to say anything about this selfless act describes him to a “T”. He had the most beautiful baby-blue eyes that were crystal clear on that hospital bed that night. You could see how relieved he was at the end. I am so happy for the person who may have received this gift.
