At-a-glance
The new temporary inactivation code “Candidate requires multi-organ TX only, isolated offers not accepted” is now available in WaitlistSM. The inactivation code is available for waitlist registrations for all organs, but should be used for candidates who require a multi-organ transplant. Registrations made temporarily inactive marked with this code will not receive offers of the specified individual organ type(s) but the code will not prevent offers of the multi-organ combination required, given there is an active registration which indicates multiple organs are needed. The new code is simply a reason to explain why a registration was marked temporarily inactive.
The new code is intended to improve the efficiency of organ offers by allowing the transplant program to clarify which, if any, offers of a single organ they will accept for their candidates.
What you need to do
The new code is mostly intended for MOT candidates where the other organ is a kidney (Heart/Kidney, Lung/Kidney, or Liver/Kidney). In those instances most programs are not willing to accept a solitary kidney offer for their MOT candidate, so they inactivate the candidate’s kidney listing in order to not receive isolated kidney offers. The new inactivation code was designed for that purpose and to assist programs with their waitlist management.
Using a Heart/Kidney candidate as an example, the program can inactivate the kidney listing to prevent receiving solitary kidney offers. Keeping the candidate’s heart listing active, the patient will show up on heart matches as needing both a heart and kidney.
Please familiarize yourself and other program staff, as applicable, with the new option.
As with any reason for temporary inactivation, you may edit the field at any time you wish to change the designation
