At-a-glance
On Dec. 7, 2020, the OPTN Board of Directors approved a new policy requiring DonorNet® users to report if COVID-19 testing was performed on the donor prior to sending an electronic organ offer.
What you need to do
Prior to sending electronic organ offers, OPO members must answer the question “Was COVID-19 (SARS-CoV-2) testing performed on the donor?” The question was added to the donor record in April 2020 and appears under the “Infectious Diseases” tab in DonorNet.
OPO members will be able to run matches without a response entered for the field; however, a response of “Yes,” “No,” or “Unknown” must be entered in order to send electronic organ offer notifications from a match run for any organ type.
Education and resources
Details regarding the COVID-19 donor testing data collection, as well as requirements for sending electronic organ offer notifications, can be found in the online help documentation within DonorNet. Read more about the policy change in OPTN’s COVID-19 Emergency Policy Package.
