Recent improvements in national kidney transplant policy have evened the rates at which African-American, Hispanic and Caucasian transplant candidates receive kidneys from deceased donors, according to UNOS data.

Implementation notice: Required reporting of certain patient safety events now in effect

A new policy is now in effect that requires members to report certain patient safety events within 72 hours of becoming aware of the event.

Special comment period for Expedited Placement Variance

The Organ Procurement and Transplant Network (OPTN) plans to release a series of proposed policies for public comment next month. Currently, OPTN seeks feedback on the “Expedited Placement Variance.” The special public comment period for the variance will begin December 21 and end January 21, 2024. Deceased kidney donors recovered increase six-months post-implementation minimum donor criteria for kidney biopsies

Early data shows a six percent increase of deceased kidney donors recovered in the post-policy era compared to the pre-policy era.
