Chief Legal Officer and General Counsel
As chief legal officer and general counsel, Elizabeth “Emy” Trende serves as a member of the company’s senior leadership team, offering broad leadership to UNOS, directing all aspects of legal affairs and providing legal counsel and advice, oversight and direction on all legal matters for the organization. In addition, in UNOS’ role as the OPTN government contractor, she oversees the policy development process for the OPTN and the teams that facilitate that process, as well as advising the Contract Operations team.
Prior to joining UNOS, Trende served as a senior attorney in health care and life sciences for the international law firm Squire Patton Boggs in Columbus, Ohio. Her previous roles included senior assistant vice president and senior associate general counsel for The Ohio State University Wexner Medical Center—where she worked on transplant matters—and health care and life sciences associate for the law firm Jones Day.
Trende is also founder and treasurer of The Mother Ship, an Ohio-based 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that promotes caretaker wellness for parents of children with special needs. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in environmental science and public policy from Harvard University and her law degree from Georgetown University Law Center.
