Unlock insights with UNOS Tools

A powerful suite of data and research analytics services, the UNOS Tools help transplant programs improve patient outcomes, stay ahead of regulatory requirements, and drive quality and performance improvement initiatives.

Everything you need to know about UNOS Tools

UNOS is deeply committed to serving our nation’s donation and transplant community. Through constant dialogue with transplant hospitals, we are continually providing new and improved products that make the work of donation and transplant more efficient and effective.

We’re excited to announce, after months of development, the release of our new and improved UNOS Tools – the data analytics and benchmarking products you’ve grown to rely on to improve your hospitals’ performance, efficiency and patient outcomes. Starting September 2025, we’ll roll out weekly improvements to our tools – and we’ll introduce a few new ones, too.

Brand new tools releasing over the next several months

Social Determinants of Health (SDoH) Report: For the first time, transplant programs will gain access to a dedicated stand-alone report—modeled after the widely used Benchmark report—that brings critical visibility to the social drivers of health impacting their patient populations. This resource empowers programs to explore, compare, and understand these factors in depth, unlocking powerful insights to strengthen care, drive equity, and advocate more effectively for patients.

Transplant Quality Staffing Dashboard: This year, UNOS worked with Intermountain Medical Center and the Transplant Quality Staffing Collaborative to create the 2025 Transplant Quality Staffing Survey. The survey is designed to capture roles and responsibilities found in Transplant Quality Departments. Now it is time to see the results! In October, participating transplant hospitals will be able to review the results and benchmark against other hospitals.

IOTA Dashboard: A tool allowing participating hospitals to track their progress and identify areas needing improvement related to the IOTA model. An initial dashboard released at the end of October, with new metrics and functionality added frequently over subsequent months based on user needs and feedback.

What are the UNOS Tools?

UNOS Tools are a suite of proprietary data analytics and benchmarking products that your transplant center uses to improve quality, drive efficiency and increase transplants. Leveraging UNOS’ best-in-class data analytics and research teams, the UNOS Tools provide invaluable insights and metrics that you have come to rely on.

What are the benefits of UNOS Tools?

UNOS Tools set your transplant hospital up for success – more transplants, better patient outcomes, increased efficiencies and stronger insights. Here are a few examples:

  • UNOS Tools save your hospital overhead and employee costs by providing access to cutting-edge analytics and metrics, freeing up time for your in-house analytics and quality teams to focus on other projects.
  • Hospitals report increased organ acceptance and transplant volumes using the CARE tool.
  • Hospitals report better identification of data quality issues and tracking of improvements using the Benchmark report.
Why is UNOS introducing new tools and enhancements of current tools now?

UNOS is constantly collecting feedback about how we can provide the products you need. We listen to the needs of busy transplant program staff and have delivered new tools and enhancements to help them spend less time on administrative tasks and more time on improving patient care. This set of upgrades represents our commitment to introduce improvements to your organization as soon as they’re ready.

How does UNOS decide what new tools are needed and how to improve existing tools?

UNOS Tools are developed and improved based on direct feedback from transplant hospitals’ staff. Each tool has a dedicated working group composed of diverse community collaborators across the hospital ecosystem – from administrators and quality managers to transplant coordinators and physicians – who work with UNOS staff to provide input and suggestions for enhancement.

What are the most popular UNOS Tools?

CARE Tool: Enables transplant programs to identify opportunities for broader organ acceptance without negatively impacting outcomes.

UNOS Predict: Helps you understand where your program sits relative to the metrics reviewed by the OPTN MPSC in future SRTR cohorts.

Benchmark Report: A fully customizable report offering insights into patient populations, listing practices, and transplant activities, allowing you to compare your hospital to other hospitals and transplant programs.

UNOS Staffing Survey: The only staffing survey designed for the unique staffing challenges of transplant. With nearly two-thirds of hospitals participating, the tool allows transplant administrators to benchmark against other transplant programs across the nation – a powerful tool in advocating for new positions.

Are there UNOS Tools for OPOs?

Yes. UNOS provides products for OPOs, including our Organ Utilization Tool (OUT) and Organ Tracking Service. UNOS is in the process of developing a more comprehensive offering for OPOs, similar to the products UNOS has developed for transplant hospitals.

My transplant hospital has multiple transplant programs for different organs. Does my access apply to my whole transplant hospital, or do I have to register per organ type?

Your access applies to the transplant hospital and is not limited by organ type.

The standard quarterly delivery of this report will be replaced with a benchmark report generator — an application allowing transplant programs to generate these same reports on demand, customizing the age groups included (adult, pediatric, or combined), metrics provided, and choose one or all of the supplemental chapters in each report. There is no limit on the number of reports that can be generated for a single program, and with data updated monthly rather than quarterly. The reports have the same look and feel you love, but are now completely customizable. Future enhancements will add additional metrics and chapters with more data.

New supplemental report

A brand-new supplemental report to summarize survey results available later in September. Based on feedback we received in May during the annual UNOS-produced Transplant Management Forum and our March webinar, we have developed this additional report to summarize results to help transplant administrators to quickly identify any deficiencies in staffing, including any roles staffed in the 10th percentile or lower among programs of a similar volume. The goal of the report is to provide another layer of context around program staffing and to provide digestible information that can be summarized for leadership when advocating for staffing changes.
