For the eighth year in a row, United Network for Organ Sharing has been named a Greater Richmond area Top Workplace by the Richmond Times-Dispatch. UNOS received 2nd place among large-sized companies (400 to 899 employees) as well as the Spotlight award for Meaningfulness. The announcement was made in the Richmond Times-Dispatch and at the virtual Top Workplaces awards ceremony on May 25.
No stranger to the Top Workplace awards, 2021 marks the first time UNOS has been named in the top three, and is one of only nine companies to make the list all eight years.
Energage, which conducts workplace surveys for dozens of newspapers across the country, invited 902 companies in the Richmond region to participate in the program this year. The firm surveyed 117 of those businesses or organizations, which employ more than 30,000 people in the Richmond area. More than 12,000 area employees provided survey responses on topics ranging from workplace environment and benefits to company leadership and community involvement.
UNOS CEO Brian Shepard said, “The primary purpose of the survey is to identify opportunities for improvement at UNOS. We will continue to use the survey results and other employee feedback to make UNOS a great place to build a career saving lives.”
UNOS provides a benefits package for medical, vision, prescription and dental insurance as well as flexible spending accounts. Employees are offered life and disability insurance programs and a company match on employee contributions to a 401(k) plan. UNOS also offers two weeks of paid leave for staff who choose to be living organ or tissue donors, and employees park for free at its downtown Richmond location.
The U.S. has the highest-performing donation and transplant system in the world, and UNOS research and technology is focused on driving continuous improvement.
