UNOS responds to inquiry by Sens. Wyden, Grassley about new Chief Technology Officer

August 19, 2024, Richmond, VA

Today UNOS officially replied to the offices of Sens. Wyden and Grassley regarding the hire of UNOS Chief Technology Officer Ankit Mathur. The senators expressed concerns that our CTO has an unspecified “conflict of interest” because he was formerly employed by United States Digital Service (USDS).

UNOS is disappointed that the senators issued a press release publicly sharing their concerns before UNOS responded with all of the facts.  A news outlet that shared similar statements last week issued a public correction after being provided undisputable documentation from UNOS that supports its position.

Mathur, who previously worked for the USDS, has done nothing illegal or unethical, or anything that violates the post-government employment restrictions that he received from the federal government.

Earlier this month, Sens. Wyden and Grassley asked UNOS to answer a number of questions about Mathur and his work before UNOS and since he joined UNOS in March. In an effort to be fully transparent, and to set the record straight, UNOS is sharing below the entirety of its response to the senators, which was sent to their offices today.
