National Donate Life Month celebrates the generosity of those who have saved lives, and encourages others to become registered donors
President Joe Biden has issued a proclamation recognizing April as National Donate Life Month. The recognition honors those who have become donors, their families and friends who supported their decision and the committed healthcare professionals within the transplant community.
Organ donation from deceased donors in the United States set an all-time record in 2020. A total of 12,587 people provided one or more organs to save and enhance the lives of others, representing an increase of six percent over 2019. With a focus on performance, innovation and equity, UNOS is always looking for ways to improve the organ donation and transplant system to save as many lives as possible.
National Donate Life Month was created by Donate Life America and its partners in 2003. Every April, NDLM encourages people to register as an organ, eye, and tissue donor, and honors those who have saved lives through the gift of donation.
