On Thursday, August 19, we lost a dear friend, a colleague, and a beloved Richmonder. As many of you know, Lisa Schaffner has passed away.
It’s so hard to reconcile this news with the vibrant, warm, and giving person who supported and elevated our lifesaving mission during her nearly 15 years at UNOS. Lisa’s pride in this work was on display in everything she did and all that she accomplished.
She inspired us to share and develop our connections to the transplant community, forging multiple avenues for patients, donors and their families to feel supported by and connected to UNOS, and forging lasting friendships along the way.
With boundless energy and tireless dedication, Lisa impacted the donation and transplant community, both locally and nationally. She impacted the Richmond community, as a journalist with WRIC, as a passionate member of Team UNOS, and as a long-time cheerleader for this city we call home. And she impacted us—her UNOS family.
We are grateful that Lisa touched all our lives and for the lasting legacy she leaves behind. In her honor, we encourage you to register to become an organ donor below.
