The Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network Ad-hoc Multi Organ Transplantation Committee has implemented several safety net policies to ensure patients in need of multiple organ transplants to get priority when they become medically eligible.
Allocation of 10 Vascularized Composite Allograft (VCA) organs has been added to UNet, along with extensive changes to existing data collection forms across organs.
Updating data in advance will ensure candidates get priority when the policy takes effect.
Candidates who meet criteria will get additional kidney allocation priority.
The changes impact all KPD programs, including the OPTN Kidney Paired Donation Pilot Program (KPDPP).
The changes are intended to improve the efficiency of the OPTN Kidney Paired Donation Pilot Program (KPDPP), improve clarity around the living donation process and update informed consent for participants in all KPD programs.
