UNOS remains committed to strengthening the system

November 07, 2024, Richmond, VA

Helping patients get the organ transplants they need continues to be top priority

The United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) reinforces its unwavering commitment to serving the nation’s organ donation and transplant community and patients through its contract with the federal government.

UNOS’ relentless support for the system and efforts to strengthen it remain strong as the federal government determines which organizations will be awarded the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN)’s transition contract task orders. UNOS looks forward to working with the new OPTN contractors to begin transitioning the work. This will begin as soon as UNOS has a contract modification from the Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) to authorize this work.

“Making the donation and transplantation system work better for patients has always been our top priority at UNOS, and continues to be so today,” said Maureen McBride, Ph.D., CEO of UNOS. “We have and continue to support HRSA in its efforts to modernize the system and look forward to continuing our work with the federal government to implement meaningful changes that will help more patients get the transplants they need.”

As the OPTN contractor, UNOS must work within the scope of its contract, and is always eager to receive contractual authorization from HRSA that would allow more to be done to strengthen the system.

In addition to its work as the OPTN contractor, UNOS continues to work closely with Congress to advance meaningful changes to the organ donation and transplant system. For more information on UNOS’ work to strengthen the system, visit unos.org.
