Today, United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) CEO Maureen McBride, Ph.D. issued the following statement in response to the final requests for proposals released by Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) for the next series of Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) contracts:
“Since I became UNOS CEO one year ago, I’ve made it a priority to work collaboratively with HRSA, Congress and the nationwide organ donation and transplant community to drive improvements to the entire system and lead the way on reforms that benefit patients and donor families. This collaborative approach is the only way we can continue to advance meaningful improvements.
“We are reviewing the final RFPs issued for the OPTN work. As I’ve said previously, UNOS welcomes a more competitive bidding process and the opportunity to demonstrate why we should continue to play a critical role in the system that started with foundational work by our organization 40 years ago. As always, it’s about doing what’s best for patients and saving more lives. We look forward to continuing our lifesaving work for the nation’s donation and transplant system.”
