Living donor Susan Dubuque discusses her decision to become a living donor

When VCU Health’s Hume-Lee Transplant Center celebrated its 60th anniversary two years ago, advertising executive Susan Dubuque received a valuable education. To help the transplant hospital tell its story, she spoke with many individuals who had been affected by organ donation, including recipients, living donors and donor families. Suddenly, the idea of more than 100,000 people on a waiting list didn’t seem so daunting. She could now attach faces and experiences to what seemed to be an overwhelmingly high number. It helped her realize she could do something, and the person she ultimately helped was someone she had never met.
