Today, the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) issued the following statement regarding President Biden’s budget request for fiscal year 2025. The proposal includes $67 million to fund the Health Resources and Services Administration’s (HRSA) Modernization Initiative – the federal governments’ plan to modernize and strengthen the organ donation and transplant system.
“We are pleased the president’s proposed budget includes this much-needed funding for the organ donation and transplant system, which highlights the administration’s commitment to strengthening the system to help more patients access the lifesaving transplants they need. We encourage Congress to act quickly to complete work on FY 2024 and FY 2025 health care appropriations to provide the increase requested by the administration. UNOS remains committed to working with Congress and HRSA to support HRSA’s Modernization Initiative.”
About UNOS
United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) is the mission-driven non-profit serving as the nation’s transplant system under contract with the federal government. We lead the network of transplant hospitals, organ procurement organizations, and thousands of volunteers who are dedicated to honoring the gifts of life entrusted to us and to making lifesaving transplants possible for patients in need. Working together, we leverage data and advances in science and technology to continuously strengthen the system, increase the number of organs recovered and the number of transplants performed, and ensure patients across the nation have equitable access to transplant.
