With four decades of clinical, research and leadership experience in transplant medicine, Maryl Johnson has helped advance the field of transplant both for her own patients and for the entire donation and transplant community. She has held multiple leadership roles, including serving as president of the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) board of directors, and is a member of numerous professional societies, including the International Society for Heart and Lung Transplantation and the American Society of Transplantation. Johnson is also a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and of the Council on Clinical Cardiology of the American Heart Association, and has an extensive record of publication in peer-reviewed journals.
Johnson earned a B.S. in zoology from Iowa State University and her M.D. from the University of Iowa, and completed her residency and fellowships at the University of Iowa hospitals.
