Vice President, External Affairs
As Vice President of External Affairs, Engel D. Burns provide leadership, vision and strategy for UNOS’ external affairs activities with government and regulatory officials, donation and transplant associations, and patient groups.
With more than 24 years of experience in government affairs, legislative strategy, and patient advocacy, Burns has led public policy and external affairs efforts for leading pharmaceutical and biotech organizations, advancing initiatives that expanded access to care, improved health equity, and supported patient-centered policy solutions. His experience includes work on Medicaid and Medicare policy, drug pricing legislation, rare disease access, and multi-stakeholder advocacy campaigns.
He holds a Master of Arts in Public Administration from Harvard University and a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of Maryland, Baltimore County.
