A kidney and liver transplant physician and transplant medicine researcher, Irene Kim has extensive research, clinical and leadership experience in transplant health care. She has published and presented widely in the field, served on multiple committees with the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS), and served on the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) board, where she chaired the Minority Affairs Committee.
Kim earned her B.S. in biology from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and her M.D. from the University of California. She completed her residency at Tufts Medical Center and a fellowship in abdominal transplantation at Stanford University.
