Today, the United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) made the following statement after the UNOS Board of Directors voted to establish its own governance structure unique from the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) Board of Directors. The new UNOS Board of Directors’ structure will go into effect on March 30, 2024, the day after UNOS’ OPTN contract with the federal government ends.
“The UNOS Board of Directors voted to establish a UNOS board structure distinct from the OPTN board. The UNOS board will not have any overlap with the OPTN board membership. UNOS members must now ratify the UNOS board’s vote. The vote will take place in early 2024.”
