OPTN/UNOS Board of Directors releases Methodist Hospital Laboratory from probation

Richmond, Va. – At its meeting today, the OPTN/UNOS Board of Directors restored full member privileges for the Histocompatibility and Immunology Laboratory at Methodist Hospital in Houston. The Board had placed the laboratory on probation in March 2016 based on a need to address issues relating to the organization’s quality management practices and training and oversight of staff.

“The laboratory has successfully applied corrective actions and improvement and has addressed the concerns leading to the action in 2016,” said OPTN/UNOS Board President Stuart Sweet, M.D., Ph.D.

United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS) serves as the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network (OPTN) by contract with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Health Resources and Services Administration, Division of Transplantation. The OPTN brings together medical professionals, transplant recipients and donor families to develop national organ transplantation policy.
