United Network for Organ Sharing invites organ procurement organizations, or OPOs, and transplant hospitals to submit nominations for the National Donor Memorial Award for Excellence, which recognizes an unsung hero (an individual or a couple). Nominees often are donor parents, recipients, living donors or volunteers who have gone above and beyond in promoting organ donation and transplantation with little public recognition.
Each organization is limited to one entry. Entries must be submitted by Tuesday, March 31. Past candidates who have not been selected as the winner can be re-nominated.
UNOS will present the 2020 award at an evening reception during the June 8 meeting of the Organ Procurement and Transplantation Network and UNOS Board of Directors in Richmond, Virginia.
The award winner and a guest, along with a representative from the nominating organization, will receive round-trip travel to Richmond and overnight accommodations. The OPO or transplant hospital submitting the winning nomination will be notified by the end of April. Every nominating OPO and transplant hospital will receive a certificate of nomination and a small gift for its nominee, recognizing his or her outstanding contributions to organ donation and transplantation.
