United Network for Organ Sharing invites organ procurement organizations (OPOs) and transplant hospitals to submit nominations for the 2021 National Donor Memorial Award for Excellence, which recognizes an unsung hero, an individual or a couple. Nominees are volunteers—often donor parents, recipients, living donors or donor family members—who have gone “above and beyond” in promoting organ donation and transplantation with little public recognition.
Each organization is limited to one entry. Entries must be submitted by Wednesday, March 17. Past nominees from the last three years can be re-nominated.
UNOS will announce the 2021 National Donor Memorial Award for Excellence at the June meeting of the board of directors and hopes to present the award to the recipient(s) at an in-person evening reception June 14 in Richmond, VA if Covid-19 precautions allow. If the evening reception takes place, the award winner and a guest, along with a representative from the nominating organization will receive round-trip travel to Richmond and overnight accommodations.
The OPO or transplant hospital submitting the winning nomination will be notified by the end of April. Every nominating OPO and transplant hospital will receive a certificate of nomination and a small gift for its nominee, recognizing his or her outstanding contributions to organ donation and transplantation.
