Doug Heiney

Director of Administration and Management

Doug Heiney was named Director of Administration and Management in January 2007. Mr. Heiney acts as a senior adviser to the OPTN/UNOS Membership and Professional Standards, Liver/Intestinal and Executive Committees. He is responsible for the overall operations of the Organ Center and works with senior management on the development and implementations of strategic operational goals and projects of the OPTN and UNOS. Prior to his current position, Mr. Heiney was Director of Membership Services and Policy Development for UNOS for over 13 years. As such, his responsibilities included directing the Membership, Policy, and Regional Administration departments; managing the Membership and Professional Standards Committee, Kidney/Pancreas Transplantation Committee, Thoracic Transplantation Committee, Liver/Intestine Transplantation Committee, Pediatric Transplantation Committee, and the Executive Committee; directing the analyses and development of organ procurement and distribution policies for the OPTN; and serving as the in-house authority on organ transplantation policy issues.

Additionally Mr. Heiney was responsible for implementing policy direction set by the Board of Directors and the Executive Director, and ensuring appropriate government contract performance.

As a longtime UNOS employee, Mr. Heiney has served as the Director of Membership Services and Policy Development, Director of Membership Services, Manager of Membership Affairs, Regional Administrator, and was an Organ Placement Specialist in the UNOS Organ Center.

Mr. Heiney also has more than 24 years of experience in the field of organ procurement and transplantation.

He received a B.B.A. in management and marketing from James Madison University. Mr. Heiney obtained certification as a Procurement and Transplant Coordinator from the American Board of Transplant Coordinators in 1988.
