Chris E. Freise, M.D., FACS, is associate professor of surgery in the transplant division at the University of California, San Francisco (UCSF).

Dr. Freise has served in a number of OPTN/UNOS positions. He is a member of the OPTN/UNOS membership and professional standards committee (MPSC), also serving on its policy compliance subcommittee and its DCD [donation after cardiac death] policy work group. He has served on the kidney and pancreas transplantation committee and on the review board (liver) from his region.

In addition to his OPTN/UNOS service, he is medical director at the California Transplant Donor Network and on the ad hoc committee on living donation at the American Society of Transplant Surgeons (ASTS). He also is the principal investigator of the A2ALL [adult to adult living donor liver transplantation cohort study] at UCSF.

He earned his medical degree at the University of Minnesota in Minneapolis.
